Property rights, rising debt, immigration, globalization—these are just some of the critical issues facing the Nation. To help keep you informed, AIER has created the Critical Issues Package. Available at our bookstore now! The first title in the package, Property Rights: The Essential Ingredient for Liberty and Progress (2004), discusses the history of property rights and reviews important matters such as eminent domain—should the state take private property for public use? The second title is the Bound 2007 Research Reports, covering issues such as the minimum wage, reverse mortgages, and global warming. The book contains a full year’s worth of Research Reports—our newsletter that regularly presents succinct, useful information about the state of the economy and economic developments as they happen. The Critical Issues Package also includes two short articles on select issues. The first is Immigrationomics (2007), written by William F. Ford, frequent commentator on CNBC and Bloomberg TV. The article presents a clear picture of the roles immigrants play in our economy. The second article, Globalization (2007), is written by Anna J. Schwartz, co-author of A Monetary History of the United States, 1867-1960 with the late Milton Friedman. In the piece, Schwartz explores how globalization is not a new phenomenon and how two recent proposals seek to counter the anti-globalization forces.
